Guiding You launches first ever ‘Coventry Blitz Walk Experience’

Almost to the day of the 70th Anniversary of the Coventry Blitz, our Coventry Blitz Walk Experience was launched to great acclaim!

An evocative, atmospheric, poignant walking tour of Coventry ’s city centre Blitz locations, the walk experience is provided by Guides in period costume who, over a 90 minute period provide fascinating, chilling and sometimes amusing detail as participants travel back in time to the night of 14th November 1940.  On this night, in Operation Moonlight Sonata, the city was relentlessly bombarded for 11 hours by the German Luftwaffe.

The response from schools, colleges and the general public has been fantastic and appearances on BBC Coventry & Warwickshire, Mercia Radio and Central ITV are evidence of the interest in these ‘walk experiences’.  Participant comments have included "brilliant'", "really interesting walk", "Opened our eyes to what went on", "Thank you for keeping these memories alive".

Guiding You to launch ' Coventry Blitz Walk Experience'

2010 is the 70th anniversary of the start of the World War II Blitz on Coventry , when on 14th November 1940, during Operation Moonlight Sonata, the city was relentlessly bombarded for 11 hours by the German Luftwaffe.

To commemorate this poignant event in the city’s history, Guiding You Ltd is proud to be launching the first ever World War II Coventry Blitz themed walking tour.  To add to the atmosphere, the walks will be led by actors and guides in WWII costumes, who will portray some of the characters, heroes and events of that night and will give true accounts of the scenes of destruction and loss.

Guiding You Ltd receives top industry awards
The results of the Heart of England Excellence in Tourism Awards were announced in November and Guiding You's Tour Guides were jointly awarded ‘SILVER’ status for their ‘Outstanding Customer Care’. We are absolutely delighted to have received this accolade and especially pleased to hear the judge's comments when making the award, which articulated our ethos far better than we could.  The judges said;

“They demonstrate a real passion for history and heritage and for sharing this with people.  They work with the widest range of groups and individuals and their work truly promotes the cultural assets of the Midlands”.

This is the second top industry award this year for Guiding You Ltd., and follows the Quality at Heart ‘GOLD’ Service-mark award for ‘Excellence in Customer Service’ received in July.  The Quality at Heart scheme was devised to encourage the highest levels of quality from tourism, leisure and hospitality operators in the Heart of England.

Blue Badge Guides show that ‘Brum is born again in the premier league’!

Guides David Waite and Leigh Moor, have recently completed a series of Guiding You Ltd, specialised walks and Driver Guided tours of the city of Birmingham for UK and overseas media staff.  Working closely with PR company Marketing Birmingham, the tours have received great acclaim and with visitors from the USA, Germany, Canada, Japan, Belgium and Holland they have certainly helped to put the city of Birmingham and of course the ‘Blue Badge' guiding qualification firmly on the world map.

All have been surprised and delighted as they discovered the benefits of a Blue Badge Tourist Guide in a city where its renaissance as a hub of culture, events and commerce confirms the city’s prominence as a global destination for both business and leisure visitors.  Award winning restaurants and hotels, some of the ’s leading fashion retailers, arts and festivals have combined with the city’s cosmopolitan culture to transform Birmingham into one of Europe's leading city centres.

"Feedback from Journalists from far and near proved that they were surprised and impressed by what they have seen during the tours of Birmingham and its environs.  Under the banner heading ‘Brum born again in premier league’ travel writer Hazel Byford wrote, “having a guide is certainly the way to discover Birmingham. I was looking for culture, fine cuisine and exciting shopping but never expected to be photographed with world class footballers Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand!  With his tongue firmly in his cheek, our Blue Badge Guide David Waite assured me that he had arranged for the lads to stop and chat during our city walking tour, before explaining that they were not a permanent fixture, (Manchester United were playing Birmingham City later in the day), but evidence that even international footballers can’t resist what Birmingham has to offer!”

The tours have included staff from newspapers, web site publishers and TV companies. Included among them was the Director of the BBC's Holiday programme, who was guided around the city to plan filming for the popular holiday series which features TV presenter Laurence Lewellyn-Bowen who praised the city, describing it as a great place to visit!

When a Singaporean film crew shot footage of the city for a promotional film for use in their home country, David was filmed himself, and did several ‘pieces to camera’ as he was interviewed throughout a walk through the city centre.  Afterwards David said “I may not be quite as well known as Laurence Lewellyn-Bowen, but the Blue Badge was prominent during the filming and I had the chance to explain what it was all about.  People in Singapore will now know the benefits of booking a Blue Badge Guide!”
